Jennifer Tipton is a preeminent lighting designer for dance and theater who has worked in the field for more than 40 years. She began her career with the Paul Taylor dance company (with which she still works) and has since illuminated dance, theater, opera, and installation art in venues across the country and around the world. She regards light as the visual music of the stage and sees her task as discovering the precise vocabulary to structure a way of seeing. Tipton has taught lighting at Yale University since 1981, training and mentoring the next generation of designers.
