BULK Space

Detroit, Michigan

Jessica Allie is an independent curator and arts organizer. With over ten years of experience in arts and culture, she has had the opportunity to work with a number of national and international arts organizations and institutions, including the University of Michigan Museum of Art, Red Bull Arts, Contemporary&, Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, SPACES, Independent Curators International, Lincoln Center ,and ApexArt. Her main focus is exploring how the arts continues to act as a means of cultural preservation among change.

BULK Space is an arts organization dedicated to uplifting the works of marginalized creatives in taking up physical and digital space. As underrepresented artists and arts administrators, we understand firsthand the needs of marginalized artists and are committed to building platforms for success. Our programs are created from a place of community responsiveness in which we identify and develop resources for all of our participants. We have created several programs including mini grants, community conversation, hands-on workshops and skill-sharing-based public programs, exhibitions, and a new Media Lab. Our practice elevates community through creative place-making and place-keeping for marginalized artists. Born from a need to honor the creativity that already exists in our Detroit communities, BULK Space serves individual practitioners in ways that traditional arts institutions currently do not. We prioritize folks who are interested in video, new media, sound art, performance, coding and other forms of making at the intersection of art and technology.

Donor -Seed and Bloom: Detroit is supported by the Gilbert Family Foundation and the Kresge Foundation.
