A pioneer of installation art, Judy Pfaff received an MFA in painting from Yale University in 1973. Moving to New York after graduation, Pfaff became frustrated by the two-dimensionality of painting and began building forms onto walls and eventually out into the room. She fuses painting and sculpture in installations that fill and transform a space with a controlled exuberance that comes from color, form, drawing, and found objects. Pfaff has been a professor at Bard College since 1995. She received a MacArthur Fellowship in 2004.
