Screenwriter and director Kelly Reichardt’s four feature films and three shorts are all rooted in realism and depict an American landscape populated by marginalized characters who struggle with everyday challenges. Her first three features, River of Grass (1994), Old Joy (2005), and Wendy and Lucy (2007), have each won numerous prestigious awards and have been included on Best Films of the Year lists in multiple publications. Reichardt’s latest feature, Meek’s Cutoff (2010), re-envisions the West from the point of view of the women on a trail with their families through the wilds of Oregon in 1845. Reichardt is currently Artist-in-Residence at Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson, New York.
