In his sculptures and photographs Michael Queenland explores the legacies of radical social and political movements in the United States, often using everyday or ephemeral materials such as soap bubbles, brooms, and spider webs. His recent works relate minimal and conceptual art to the ethic and aesthetic of Shaker furniture. Queenland has had solo exhibitions at the Institute of Contemporary Art at the Maine College of Art and the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston. His work has been included in many group shows, includingTraceat the Whitney Museum of American Art at Altria andFrequencyat the Studio Museum in Harlem. He was artist in residence at the Studio Museum in Harlem in 2005.
