Playwright and director Octavio Solis focuses his work on the Latino-American experience. Rather than being overtly polemical, Solis’s work overturns stereotypes and questions what it means to be American in an increasingly diverse country. He has had 18 plays produced by theaters around the country, including the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Center Theatre Group in Los Angeles, and Yale Repertory Theatre. He has received numerous honors, including an NEA Playwriting Fellowship, the Roger L. Stevens award from the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the 1998 TCG/NEA Theatre Artists-in-Residence Grant, and the National Latino Playwriting Award for 2003.
