Choreographer Reggie Wilson combines contemporary modern dance with African traditions. He received a BFA from New York University in 1988. A year later, he founded Reggie Wilson/Fist and Heel Performance Group, which includes dancers and vocalists. Wilson draws his movement language from ritual, the blues, and the spiritual cultures of Africa and the Americas. His works are often accompanied by live percussive rhythms produced by foot stomping or hand clapping.
