Rennie Harris founded Rennie Harris Puremovement in 1992 “to preserve and disseminate hip-hop culture” through classes, workshops, lectures, and public presentations. Referred to as “the ambassador of hip-hop,” Harris incorporates African American traditions and newer forms of expression in works that speak to a younger generation of tolerance and peace. Another of Harris’s projects isIlladelph Legends, a weeklong hip-hop festival that began in 2000 with ten guest artists and fifty students attending classes, lectures, and performances. It has grown to include more than five hundred participants and tours to colleges and festivals, presenting master classes and performances.
