Overview

Sustaining artists in communities across the United States requires widespread collaboration. We expand support for individual artists through partnerships with foundations, philanthropists, and other field leaders. Our partner Initiatives have accounted for millions of dollars of direct investment in artists and cultural practitioners.

How We Work

Experienced in providing resources to artists across disciplines and geographies, USA works closely with partners in a variety of ways to serve their missions and the needs of artists. Our general process is outlined below.

Research

Our discovery and research includes field assessments, informational interviews, and resource reviews to better understand the current landscape of resources, unique challenges, and relevant local contexts for each Initiative.

Program Design

Working closely with our partners to ensure alignment with their mission and goals, we design fellowships, residencies, and other programs, including publications and convenings, to spotlight artists and build networks of support between them and the field.

Community

We engage artists, cultural practitioners, and field leaders to serve as advisors, nominators, application readers, and panelists, making sure our work remains artist-centered and responsive to shifting needs.

Evaluation

Our approach to this work is iterative and flexible. Whether collaborating with an external evaluation partner or reflecting on each Initiative with our partners, we are continuously learning from each cycle, tailoring our approach to best serve the needs of artists across the nation.
